Family Law – Legal Separation Advantages

divorce-separationPeople come into my office and are not sure if they want to be divorced or legally separated.

The only difference between a divorce and legal separation is that parties who are legally separated cannot get legally married.  Most people get legally separated if they want to be able to continue on their spouses health insurance and it doesn’t matter to them that they can’t get remarried.

You can always turn a legal separation into a divorce at any time.   Also, there is also no waiting period to become legally separated.
